NB FASD Center of Excellence launched in New Brunswick
Family Plus/ Life Solutions is working in collaboration with Family Service Moncton and the New Brunswick Department of Health in administering the New Brunswick Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Centre of Excellence. The Centre offers bilingual services in prevention, diagnosis and intervention/support for those affected by FASD and their families/caregivers. Preventive work focuses on educating the public, most specifically women of childbearing age on the risks associated with alcohol use during pregnancy. Diagnosis for children/youth up to age 18 years is provided by a professional multidisciplinary team which includes a paediatrician, psychologist, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist. Intervention services are carried out in collaboration with existing community resources and partners, Community Regional Coordinators in four regions of the province and an Aboriginal Liaison who works with NB’s First Nations population. The Saint John Community Regional Coordinator can be contacted by calling Family Plus/ Life Solutions at 506-634-8295
