Is Family Plus/Life
Solutions the same as the Provincial Department of Family and Community Services?
No. Family Plus/Life Solutions is a private, not-for-profit agency, with a Board
of Directors, composed of members from the professional and business community.
We provide services to assist individuals and families in managing the challenges
of today's living conditions.
How much does it
cost to get counselling?
There is a nominal fee for a counselling session. Thanks to funding from the
United Way of Greater Saint John, we are able to offer a sliding scale for those
who cannot afford this fee. Family Plus/Life Solutions also holds many EAP contracts
with local companies. Recipients of income assistance benefits may also be eligible
to attend counselling sessions on referral from their financial worker. Payment
options will be discussed with you during your intake interview.
We also offer psychological counselling sessions which are often covered under
many extended health plans.
How long does a
counselling session last? How long do I need to come?
An average counselling session will run about 50 minutes to one hour in length.
The number of sessions required for the therapy process will depend on a number
of factors, including your presenting problem, and other services you may be
receiving, with the average being six sessions.
How many people
can attend a counselling session at a time?
The number of people that can attend a session will depend upon your individual
situation and the type of counselling you are receiving. We offer individual,
couple and family sessions. Many times other family members will be invited
to join counselling sessions.
What qualifications
do your counsellors have?
Our professional counsellors and group program staff, most with Master level
accreditation, are able to assist individuals and families with a wide range
of issues. Family Plus/Life Solutions employs and contracts the services of
a number of professionals with various designations including: Social Workers,
Psychologists, Reality Therapists, Mediators, CEAP Professional and Certified
Drug and Alcohol Counsellor. All are registered in good standing with their
professional licensing associations.
