FATHER'S DAY
Here are some Father's Day traditions. Bet there are some you didn't know.

  • You are supposed to wear a red rose if your father is still living;
  • If your father is dead, then you should wear a white rose;
  • Give your father a weird, wacky tie;
  • Have the family over for a cookout prepared by Dad himself;
  • Do tell your father you love him and give him a huge bear hug.

Do you know the history of Father's Day?
In 1909, Sonora Louis Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington heard a sermon on the merits of setting aside a day to honor one's mother (this was just when Mother's Day was gaining in popularity). Sonora thought, "If we honour mothers, why can't we do the same for fathers?" Thinking about her own father, William Jackson Smart, who had raised her and her five siblings by himself after her mother died in childbirth, she realized that there were other excellent fathers that could use recognition. In this, she received support from the Spokane Ministerial Association and the YMCA. And on June 19, 1910, the first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane.

In 1972, Richard Nixon signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day.
